Fred was a classroom teacher for 19 of his 24 years in public education. One of the original teachers to become involved in the New Hampshire Writing Project in 1979, he has directed a number of published anthologies of student writing. For the past ten years, Fred has been working with teachers across the nation and in American schools overseas to help improve the instruction of writing. Most recently, Fred has focused on understanding and implementing the writing-related standards of CCSS. He holds a Doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching from Boston University.
